![]() This interview originally appeared in XeroX issue #1. Keep an eye out for print copies of XeroX at your next local hardcore show. Photos by Tyler except for title image. For our first interview we chose AZ locals Think Fast and asked them 10 questions. Think Fast is Andy-Vocals, Garret-Guitar, Gerson-Bass, and John-Drums. Heres the interview:
XeroX: State your name(s) and a little about yourself.
Jon: My name is Jon. I'm 22 and don't act my age.
Garret: I'm Garrett. I am 17. I play guitar. Gerson: Gerson and I play bass. You guys have been around for awhile. Give us a little history on Think Fast.
Ge: Garrett and Andy started the band, John and I joined later and made it a solid lineup.
Ga: I started this band when I was 13. X: What releases do you guys have?
Ga: Some cool ones. Minus our cheesy one sided 7'' of bullshit.
J: Our first release which is our "In The Name Of Fun" 7", a one sided 7" of bullshit fun, and a split with Fatality from Reno. We also have one song on the AZ Fastcore comp that 625 put out. X: What are your influences? (musically and/or in general)
J: Every band I like and being pissed.
Ga: 80's hardcore, 90's hardcore. Lots of pissed DIY hardcore like Infest, Larm, Ripcord, and Heresy. Fast, short, and mean. The real thing. No cheesy crew cuts, Nikes, or $15 live shows chock full of choreographed jumps. Andy: Feeling bitter and unsatisfied. Ge: My influences are any fast, aggressive, pissed off hardcore. Also, the misery and disappointment of life in general. X: I know you guys went on tour recently. Any stories?
J: Mooning bikers for 10 miles was one of the greatest moments of my life. Probably the only accomplishment I will ever achieve. Eating hella good food in Chicago and sleeping in the art space in Olean, NY. Fucking awesome.
Ga: Jon mooning American flag waving patriots on the highway. That was sweet. Also, Jon shoplifted one peach in New York, that was cool too. Oh, and seeing some girl getting nasty with her boyfriend who looked like Rob Schneider at the lake in Chicago. We later saw him doing pushups for his girl. And vegan french toast in Chicago. Fuck yeah. A: Lots of good times. We shot fire works into lake Michigan, got lots of free chips in New York, and mooned bikers near St. Louis. Ge: Our van broke in Austin, and we stayed at Garrett's grandpa's house. We fixed the van, finished the tour, and went to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. X: What bands (local and national) do you think people should know about?
Ge: I think any local punk band that is pushing the bar and making good music deserves recognition. I think more people should know about national bands that aren't playing cookie-cutter trendy music.
Ga: Get Destroyed locally. Nationally, I would say Bafabegiya. Bands that are doing good things, regardless of what genre. J: locally - get destroyed. internationally - the youths. X: What do you guys like to do for fun?
A: make shit bombs
J: be a dad to the rest of my band mates. Ga: Every weekend Andy and I hang out in my room all night. I like to hand out pamphlets. Ge: I like to collect records, skateboard, and wander. X: What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Ga: Touring. New songs. Lots of clues. Lots of sloppy five minute sets.
A: write more songs. Ge: Find a new pad, get back on my feet, and continue working on our show space. J: working til I die. X: Just for fun. Favorite records in your collection?
J: I Hate Myself - 10 songs LP. The Repos - LP. and all my Down In Flames EPs.
Ga: Born Against / Suckerpunch split limited edition tour flexi disk! I also really enjoy my Left For Dead / Acrid split sawblade! Ge: Pisschrist "Nothing Has Changed", WB2D "Totalitarian Sodomy" X: Anything else you would like people to know?
Ge: I don't like lots of things, like bland, overproduced hardcore and stupid package tours.
A: keep rock and roll alive. |
